| Behind The Scenes - Virtual Sexuality Total Films; August 1999 Issue Considering it's Britain's answer to Weird Science, a London Docklands' car park location on a grey day is about as far away from Brat Pack allure as it's possible to get. Yet Virtual Sexuality boasts an impressive and appropriate CV, with Trainspotting's cameraman Brian Tufano shooting a screenplay from Just 17 magazine agony uncle Nick Fisher. Director Nick Girls Night Hurran is convinced the film qualifies for John Hughes' crown. "When I first read the script," he marvels, "I just couldn't believe it hadn't been done before in Britain." 9AM actor Rupert Penry-Jones - tall adonis with white blond spiky hair - has to appear naked in a scene he's rescued by lead Laura Fraser. The set is closed, for obvious reasons. "We did suggest to the crew that they spend the day naked to make Rupert feel better," says Hurran. "But that didn't go down too well. Of course, I was willing myself. But the No Ways won out. 12PM Rupert, in a pink dressing gown, looks a bit glum - everyone else in the shot was fully clothed, and it's not the warmest of days. The car park is cluttered with little piles of burned rags. "Yesterday we blew up a van and a car," grins producer Christopher Figg. "And this afternoon our 22-year-old actress is driving a four-tonne truck at the camera crew. As she hasn't even got her driving test, I'm a little bit worried about it." 12:30PM Fraser and Penry-Jones are joined in the cab of said truck by co-star Luke De Lacey. The lorry is on a system of pulleys, so it can't go far. Everyone in the crew laughs as Fraser jack-in -the-boxes up and down on cue, screaming with shock. | ||
